The kitchen has to stay on for a good 5 minutes or so before it even gets hot water. It just lets you set the temperature, capacity, and vacation / away mode. But right now after one rolling blackout in below freezing weather, the panel shows F17 error code .
I’m sure your technicians could be spending their time more productively instead of answering calls about the lights. Luckily it was actually heating water to a default temperature, or else it would have been a much bigger problem. I ended up having to make several phone calls over the next week to GE customer service, with them telling me different things to try. You can manually turn the heater on and off or adjust the temperature from your phone – and that’s it. My old dumb water heater had the same functionality, I just had to actually walk over to it. The horrible app is my biggest problem with this heater, but I should also point out that it arrived in an error state. I bought this water heater thinking that if I paid a few extra dollars for a smart one, I would save money on my electric bills long term.
